Break Out Session 1

Reading Session (small church)
The Church Year for Smaller Choirs

Rev. Dr. Russell Miller
Adult Choral Workshop Rev. Dr. Russell Miller
Being a small choir doesn’t mean being unable to present meaningful and memorable music in worship.  This session will focus on anthems suitable for the church year that are accessible to 2 part, 3 part, and 4 part choirs.  A variety of styles and genres will be included, but all with an eye (and ear!) to enhancing worship.

Break Out Session 2

Reading Session Music for the Larger Choir and the Larger Smaller Choir
Brad Kisner
Brad Kisner, Adult Choral Workshop
We’ll sing through anthems for the medium-large choir with titles that can be used throughout the church year.  Some are new publications, others are tried & true favorites.  Maybe you’ll find just the right choir selection to sing in your home church.
LaMonica Lewis, Adult Choral Workshop
The Gospel of Good Music: Exploring the Gift of Diverse Genres
Offered in Session 1 & Session 2
LaMonica Lewis
We will be exploring the use of diverse genres in the worship service.  As times change, we need to understand that in order to reach the masses, our delivery has to be varied and it can be done in the context of one service.   Psalm 150: 3-6 says “Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals.  Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

What??? NONE of the tenors will be here for the 3rd Sunday of the month?  And another Sunday, half of the choir indicates they will be out that day!  We will look at suggestions for going to “Plan B”, making modifications and changes when that seems to be the order of the day.  We’ll also investigate the resources you already have and those you might be able to secure to make days like these easier.
