The Martin Luther King, Jr. Award is given annually by the Southwest Texas Conference Commission on Religion and Race. The Commission recognizes an individual whose life, vocation and action exhibit the criteria set forth below, as exemplified by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr

CRITERIA • The recipient should be a member of The United Methodist Church within the geographical boundaries of the Southwest Texas Conference, or the Rio Grande Conference. • The recipient may be either lay or clergy, and a person who is deeply committed to —the Christian imperative of nonviolence working to build bridges between cultures, breaking down all racial barriers that separate and dehumanize —being a strong advocate of human brokenness of humanity and seeking to be in healing ministries, working to alleviate racial tensions in the Conference or Community —promoting and supporting domestic tranquility, peace and justice, being a reconciling agent in communities —a clear understanding of and commitment to world peace.

PROCESS Nominations will be received until February 28. The award will be made during the Annual Conference Awards session.
