14 attend Sept. 15-16 basic
lay speaking course in Beeville

Fourteen people attended a Basic Lay Speaking Course Sept.
15-16 at First UMC, Beeville.
They were Lee Ann Black of Grace UMC, Corpus Christi; Wes Boullioun of First UMC, Seguin; Nancy Busby, Ruth Castorena, Carmen Martinez, Stephanie Perez and Mary Alice Rangel of South Bluff UMC, Corpus Christi; Wayne Carpenter of St. Peter’s by the Sea UMC, Corpus Christi; Joe Garza of First UMC, Portland; Amanda Mendez and Huck Nelson of First UMC, Taft; Carolyn Scheible of First UMC, Bishop; Ken Smith of Oak Park UMC, Corpus Christi; and Edwin Wallek of Skidmore UMC.
The course was led by Mabel Gilliland of First UMC, Aransas Pass; Ryka Schroeder and Ben Hager of First UMC, Portland; and Dale Langley of First UMC, Robstown.
Cherie Bushwar of Wesley UMC, Corpus Christi, coordinated the event and was helped by Kay Plummer of Grace UMC, Corpus Christi, and Emily Cheatham of First UMC, Cuero.
During the same weekend, 13 participated in the Advanced Course, “Lay Speakers Lead Worship.”
Participants were Nancy Childress of First UMC, Seadrift; Clyde Coles and Gayle Keramian of Asbury UMC, Corpus Christi; Sharon Cooke and Carol Ann Weston of First UMC, Portland; Robert Foley of Scruggs Chapel UMC, Edna; Anne McConnell and Joan Morgan of Grace UMC, Corpus Christi; Joe Moreno and Librado Navarro of South Bluff UMC, Corpus Christi; Jimmie Carol Nelson of Fentress UMC; Billy Ray Sayles of St. Paul UMC, Corpus Christi; and Ted Williams of First UMC, Rockport.
The advanced course was led by Tom Dolezal of First UMC, Beeville. Stephanie Creech of First UMC, Portland, coordinated the event. Dale Langley of First UMC, Robstown, helped.
Lay Speakers must submit an annual report to their church or charge conference each year to remain on the District Lay Speaker list.
