Beds, mattresses, linens needed at home for juvenile offenders
By Carol MorterManchaca UMC, Austin
I teach at the Garner Betz Juvenile Correctional Center in Austin. Most of our day treatment students (misdemeanors) come from poor homes, often with dysfunctional families.
It was brought to my attention that some students are sleeping on the floor, or, to quote one young man- “on a urine-stained mattress.”
If anyone has an extra twin or full-size bed set (with a frame and maybe some bed linens), please contact me at (512) 394-9451 or carolmorter@ yahoo.com.
Let’s take it “one bed at a time.” This one small act of caring and kindness may be what motivates our students to pursue a legal and healthy life.
