Experts to explain school funding

A comprehensive explanation of school funding and the state revenue system will be the focus of a forum Jan. 22 at First UMC, Austin.
Experts representing state government, the business community and advocates for low-income Texans will present information and discuss the complex issues surrounding Texas’ taxation and school funding systems.
The forum will be an ideal opportunity to learn about the issues in a nonpartisan and respectful environment.
Questions to be considered include: Is the current system fair? Does it provide enough money to meet our needs? How can taxpayers influence school funding decisions? What is the role of congregations in the discussion?
The forum is sponsored by the Austin District Amos Commission. Co-sponsors are Texas Impact and the Baptist Christian Life Commission.
The forum will run from 2 to 4 p.m. in the church’s Family Life Center. First UMC is at 1300 Lavaca St., Austin. For more information contact the Rev. Mimi Raper, (512) 478-5684.
