Movie crew enjoys Montopolis center
United Methodist Women recently rented out Colorado Hall at Mon-topolis Friendship Community Center for events in the neighborhood.
The hall played host to a movie crew from Richard Linklater’s new film, an adaptation of the book Fast Food Nation. The hall was the location for the catered lunch and dinner while the filming was done at Allison Elementary School next door.
Before the holidays began, the children at the preschool and those from Mother’s Day Out were treated to a Christmas party and a visit from Santa (the Rev. George Ricker). Their rooms were decorated by the University UMC, Austin, United Methodist Women. They also decorated cookies and filled 20 bags with layettes for new mothers leaving Brackenridge Hospital.
Seven scholarship students being assisted by Montopolis Friendship Community Center completed their fall semesters and will be receiving book money for the spring. The scholarship students attend area colleges. All are from the Montopolis area.
An event in the making is the 50th Anniversary Fiesta of Montopolis Friendship Community Center.
The Montopolis Friendship Community Center and the scholarship fund are seeking contributions. Please send your contributions to P.O. Box 4691, Austin 78765.
