Austin pastor to lead Ministers Week workshop

A Southwest Texas Conference pastor is leading one of 11 workshops next month in Dallas during Ministers Week at Southern Methodist University.
The Rev. Jim L. Mayfield, senior pastor of Tarrytown UMC, Austin, is presenting a session on “Becoming a More Effective Senior Pastor.” The workshop is to address the key abilities, knowledge and skills needed to lead a large congregation. Key topics include staff relations and management.
Ministers Week, an annual continuing education gathering sponsored by SMU’s Perkins School of Theology, is scheduled for Feb. 6 through 8 on the Dallas campus. Theme for 2006 is “Called to Lead.”
In addition to the 11 workshops, participants can attend seven featured lectures delivered by scholars and leading pastors.
Several hundred clergy members from across the nation are expected to attend.
