Thanks for your faithfulness
in paying 2006 apportionments
To the clergy and laity of the Corpus Christi District:
When the dust settled at the United Methodist Center in San Antonio Jan. 12, the Corpus Christi District had a total payout on apportionments for 2006 of 92.13 percent. That represents a 0.77 percent decrease from 2005.
Funds are remitted to the district at the payout percentage.
For 2006, our district had the lowest payout in the Southwest Texas Conference. When you see the report for the annual conference, you may wonder how that came to be.
Each year the majority of our churches pay out 100 percent by the deadline. Often, some of our smaller churches pay 100 percent early in the year, which is a huge help for cash flow in the district.
In the last quarter of the year, churches that have held on to funds through the rest of the year begin to catch up.
This year the surprise was that two of our vital churches were not able to pay out by the end of the year. The total apportionments for these vital churches are significantly higher than for many of our churches. The deficit in their payout represents the majority of the deficit in the district payout.
In addition, this year a few other churches paid out that didn’t in 2005. Others came closer to payout than in previous years. Two churches paid more than 100 percent.
I have no doubt that the report we see represents spiritual victories in stewardship as well as reasons for concern.
Thank you to everyone for your faithfulness in supporting the United Methodist connection through giving to the apportionments. They help us always to do more together for the sake of Jesus Christ than any of us are able to do on our own.
In Christ,
Barbara J. Ruth
