Pharr UMC offers full schedule of activities during Christmas

Excitement abounded at Pharr UMC this Christmas.
Old traditions and new traditions begun during Advent continued throughout the Christmas season to make a wonderful celebration of the birth of our Lord.
More than 50 people from the congregation, the Community of Faith and the neighborhood joined in La Posada Dec. 22.
Mary rode a donkey as the crowd followed, singing traditional Christmas songs in English and Spanish.
The Posada ended at a stable outside the home of Sylvia Perez. Inside the Perez home, the family served refreshments, which included traditional Mexican foods.
The Christian Education Department presented a Christmas program Dec. 23 for the residents of Brook Ridge retirement home.
The 5 p.m. Christmas Eve service included a nativity pageant involving members of the Christian Education Department and ended with Holy Communion.
The 7 p.m. Christmas Eve service included a Posada and traditional candle lighting.
Refreshments were served between the services. Despite the cold and freezing rain turning to snow, attendance was excellent.
Amid Pharr’s first white Christmas Dec. 25, the church had its first family Christmas dinner.
Following a noon worship service where worshipers gathered at the Lord ’s Table, members of the congregation gathered around the family table. They enjoyed a delicious meal and delightful companionship.
