Veteran writer, editor joins communications staff

Williams

A veteran corporate communicator joined the Southwest Texas Conference staff this month.
Claudia M. Williams, a member of University UMC, San Antonio, replaced Julie A. Wiley as print media communications specialist in the Communications and Public Witness Office. Wiley left in mid-December.
Williams is to report for United Methodist Witness, assist with production of the twice monthly newspaper, work on other print media projects and contribute content to the conference Web site.
For the past 18 months Williams has been teaching public relations and writing at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
She worked in the corporate com-munications department of USAA insurance from 1985 to 2003. Her duties included editing employee and customer magazines and other publications.
Before that Williams worked as a reporter for the Chambersburg (Pa.) Public Opinion and Shippensburg (Pa.) News-Chronicle.
In 15 years at University UMC, Williams has been a 40 Days of Purpose group leader and chaperone for youth mission trips. She participates in a small-group Bible study and has served in various ministry areas.
Williams has been a table leader for a Walk to Emmaus spiritual-renewal weekend.
Williams earned a bachelor of arts in journalism degree from the University of Houston and a master of arts in English and communications arts from St. Mary’s University, San Antonio.
