Morningside Ministries gets $4.6 million bequest
UM-related Morningside Ministries of San Antonio received the largest gift in its 45-year history Feb. 2.
The not-for-profit retirement community was given a $4.6 million bequest from the estate of
Lt. Col. Charles A. Williams of San Antonio. He died in July.
Williams left the money to ensure that Morningside could continue providing the quality of care to
older adults that his mother received as a resident in the 1970s.
Morningside Ministries provides independent living, assisted living and nursing care for older adults
at two sites in San Antonio and one in Boerne.

Singing group to present program in San Antonio
Re-Creation, a traveling ensemble of young singers, is to present a free program of sacred music Feb. 24 in San Antonio.
St. John’s UMC is playing host to the 4 p.m. performance, called “His Name.” A 5 p.m. potluck dinner is to follow the program.
The program is designed as a worship service and is to feature traditional and contemporary church music, children’s songs and original compositions. A freewill offering will be collected.

Lakehills UMC has scheduled its 7th annual Fish Fry and Auction for March 24 at the Lakehills Civic Center.
Activities are to run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and include live music, a health fair, games for children, and live and silent auctions as well as food. Proceeds are to support Lakehills UMC’s community outreach programs, including after-school care, food pantry and back-to-school supplies for needy families.

Online course offers ways to maximize Disciple use
Southwest Texas UMs can take part in an online course through Feb. 23 on “Maximizing Disciple in Your Church.”
The Institute for Discipleship at UM-related Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan., is offering the training.
The course doesn’t replace regional Disciple training events, said retired Bishop Richard Wilke, originator of Disciple Bible Study and head of the institute. “But it will help you multiply groups, reach the unchurched and train new facilitators,” he said.
