How does your church live out its purpose?

Churches need a purpose greater than being larger. To seek only to be larger is similar to seeking to save your life and thereby losing it. More of the same is not always better.
Churches that pride themselves on being smaller do not impress me either. Whom would they want to exclude or drive away to be sure the church is small? Why would they not want more people to join in the work?
Churches need a purpose greater than being small.
How does the following sound as a summary of the purpose?
Receive those whom God draws into the church and prepare them for faithful witness and service in daily life.
> Nurture fellow Christians going through tough times.
> Support and hold each other accountable within the life of the church in our discipleship.
> Give steady and faithful service to people in need in the name and spirit of Jesus Christ.
> Bear witness to the kingdom of righteousness and justice captured in the biblical word “shalom.”
Churches are located in many different places. The specific ways in which a church would live out these purposes will vary. I am persuaded that churches that consistently do these things well and let their light shine will get larger.
We will find our life as a church by giving ourselves for God’s purposes.
