New film evokes pastor’s memories

The movie End of the Spear, which is currently playing in local theaters, brings back memories to the Rev. Charles Graff of St. Luke’s UMC, Corpus Christi.
In 1981 Graff was invited by Kimo, the first Waodani Christian pastor, to visit the Waodani (or Waorani) tribe in Ecuador.
Graff traveled in a helio courier via JARS (Jungle Aviation & Radio Service), which provides transportation to missionaries in the rain forest and other areas along the tributaries of the Amazon.
As a missionary in that area, Graff had the opportunity to work with the native Waodani and to meet other missionaries whose family members are featured in End of the Spear.
Graff showed a collection of weapons and tools from the Waodani people to the St. Luke‘s congregation Jan. 29.
Graff spent a special time with the children of the church sharing some of his experiences as a missionary.
His message to the congregation on that day further explained the special calling given to missionaries who serve around the world.
