Pharr project seeks help for education effort
The Pharr Community Outreach Project/Shalom, sponsored by the Pharr UMC, wants to begin a Christian education class as part of its Thursday night Community of Faith.
The Community of Faith meets weekly from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Children have been spending part of the evening with adults in fellowship and praise, then the rest of the evening in various activities.
The outreach project wants to use that additional time for Christian education for 10 to 18 children from age 4 through 6th grade and needs volunteers to put a program together.
The primary need is an appropriate curriculum. Such a curriculum would be bilingual or in Spanish, theologically sound, appropriate for this broad range of ages, inexpensive, easy to implement and creative.
After the curriculum is selected, people must be trained on the Community of Faith concept, structuring a Christian education class, and recruiting and equipping teachers.
If this project sounds like a challenge, it is. The Community Outreach Project needs you if you can do any or all of the following:
> Serve as a consultant to begin the Christian education program.
> Involve your church in a mission project to start and support this program.
> Involve your congregation in prayer for this ministry.
> Provide funding to help pay for the curriculum and materials.
> Provide a training program for volunteers and monitor its progress until the Christian education class is operating independently.
Please contact Elva Michal if you can serve in any of these areas. You can reach her at elvakeith@aol.com, (956) 648-2488 or P.O. Box 626, Pharr 78577.
