Manchaca UMC offers forum about HPV vaccine March 25
Manchaca UMC has scheduled a seminar March 25 to address questions and concerns about the HPV vaccine. Although the seminar is geared for parents of girls 10 to 12, it is open to everyone. Led by Susan Jordan, RN, the event is to take place in the Gateway classroom inside the Family Life Center from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
Westlake UMC to present Lenten recital series in March
Westlake UMC, Austin, is offering a Lenten recital series on four Thursdays in March from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. You are invited to attend these recitals. They feature area musicians presenting a variety of musical traditions and styles. A light lunch is to follow each recital.
Here’s the lineup for this special opportunity for reflection and refreshment during the Lenten season:
March 1: John Tidmore, Westlake UMC organist, presents organ selections.
March 8: George Powell, Greater Mount Zion music minister, presents a gospel piano/vocal recital.
March 22: Russell Gregory and Casey Finnigan present a vocal recital.
March 29: Paul Keith, Westlake Presbyterian Church organist, presents organ selections.

District Amos Commission slates May 8 workshop for pastors
The Austin District Amos Commission, in association with Texas Impact, will offer a workshop for clergy members on “Gospel, Truth and Power: Preaching, Teaching and Leading in the Prophetic Tradition and Shaping Prophetic Congregations” May 8.
The Rev. Peter J. Storey is to lead the workshop from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at First UMC, Austin, 1201 Lavaca.
Storey is a renowned preacher, Duke University professor, activist and prophetic leader from South Africa.
The workshop provides an opportunity to learn from one who has walked in the fire of Caesar’s wrath and injustice, to encounter the Jesus we are called to follow, to build new skills and to transform the world.

New Servant Team replaces junior counselors at camps
The Servant Team is a brand new ministry of the Southwest Texas Conference and will begin during the summer of 2007.
The Servant Team will replace the junior counselor positions at summer camp. Serving on the team will provide a chance to develop leadership skills and to help grow as a Christian disciple.
The Servant Team is for students (ages 16 to 21). Members imitate the example of Jesus Christ while serving as leaders for conference summer youth events.

10th Annual Jody Damron golf tournament to be April 14
The 10th Annual Jody Damron Northwest Hills United Methodist Men’s Golf Tournament is scheduled for April 14 at the Lions Municipal Golf Course.
Everyone is invited to play—women, youths and men. Entry fees are $75 for adults and $35 for youths. Fees include green fee, shared cart and dinner at Northwest Hills UMC.
A dinner and dessert auction are to follow the tournament. These events are to be in the Family Life Center from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tickets for nonplayers are $5 for adults and $3 for ages 12 and younger.
Hole and green sponsorships are available for $50—or $90 for two.
Registration and tickets will be available after each Sunday morning service, in the church office or from any member of the UM Men. Prospective players can obtain tickets by mail from Bob Callison at 7200 Halbert Drive, Austin 78750.
Desserts for the auction should be delivered to the Family Life Center before 5 p.m. Saturday. Please include a description of the dessert and your name.
