Where are values in debate over Bush library at SMU?
I thank Austin Frederick Jr. for his words about the proposed Bush library (“Let’s follow King’s guidance
in Bush library debate,” Feb. 23).
It behooves all of us to take a step back and think about what we are doing and saying as Christians. I personally think that the Bush library doesn’t belong at Southern Methodist University or anywhere in Dallas. The very idea that there must be buildings torn down for a library in a place that could use more updated housing—and a wonderful bakery/cafe destroyed—doesn’t make sense to me.
That SMU would do such a thing just to land this presidential library, which is seen as a prestige item and a money-making endeavor, makes me wonder where the values are.
