McAllen superintendent
moving to Austin District

Austin District United Methodists are to welcome a veteran superintendent as their new leader in June.
The Rev. Kim Cape, McAllen District superintendent since 2002, is to succeed the Rev. Robert E. Hall as superintendent of the 28,618-member Austin District.
Hall, 63, who has led the Austin District since 1999, is to follow the Rev. James L. Mayfield as senior pastor of Tarrytown UMC, Austin. Mayfield, 69, who has served the 2,144-member Tarrytown congregation since 1988, is retiring.
Bishop Joel N. Martinez has announced his intention to make these pastoral appointments during the June 7-10 Southwest Texas Annual Conference session in Corpus Christi.
Cape, 54, began her ministry in 1976 and served many years in the Austin area. She was pastor of Buda UMC from 1979 to 1982; Berkeley UMC, Austin, from 1982 to 1986; and Man-chaca UMC, from 1993 to 1995. Cape was development program director for the Austin-based Texas Methodist Foundation from 1995 to 2001.
Cape has also been pastor of Grace UMC, Corpus Christi, and a regional representative for the General Board of Discipleship.
As a superintendent, Cape is an extension of the bishop’s office and advises Martinez on pastoral appointments. She provides spiritual and administrative leadership to pastors and members of congregations in her district and represents The United Methodist Church hierarchy to them.
Cape earned a bachelor’s degree in 1974 from Pan American University, Edinburg, a master of theology degree in 1979 and a doctor of ministry degree in 2004 from Southern Methodist University.
Cape was ordained a deacon in 1976 and an elder in 1980.
