Cuero women reorganize unit of UM Women, welcome officers
Women at First UMC, Cuero, are in a time of new beginnings. They move into a newly reorganized unit
of United Methodist Women.
Collette Barth is the first president. Linda Sager is vice president, and Louise Buckhorn is the treasurer.
In reporting this good news, Beverly Wilson, Corpus Christi District UMW president, expressed joy on behalf of the entire district in receiving the group. She said all UMW members, especially the elected officers, will assist the new Cuero group in any way and with all the resources available.
Older adult council plans trip to Gruene, New Braunfels
Come join us for a trip to the beautiful Texas Hill Country as the Corpus Christi District Council on Older Adults plans
a day trip to Gruene.
The trip is set for April 16. We will leave First UMC, Corpus Christi, at 7 a.m. and will make stops along the way to pick up others wishing to join us.
We are to stop at First UMC, Sinton, at 7:30 a.m.; First UMC, Beeville, at 8 a.m.; and Karnes City UMC at 8:30 a.m.
We will enjoy the beautiful wildflowers along the way. Lunch will be at the Grist Mill in Gruene, followed by plenty of time to shop.
We’ll gather to return to Corpus Christi at 4 p.m., with a stop at Cedar Springs near New Braunfels for early dinner or a snack. We plan to be back in Corpus Christi by 8 p.m.
Reservations must be made by April 11 so that plans can be made for adequate transportation.

Registration deadline nearing for advanced lay speaking class
The Corpus Christi District Lay Speaking Committee will offer the Advanced Lay Speaking course “Lay Speakers Lead Small Groups” April 13-14 at Grace UMC, Corpus Christi.
Registration deadline is March 30.
The course will be led by Carol Ann Weston and Sharon Cooke, certified lay speakers from First UMC, Portland.
People who are already lay speakers are invited to participate in this course.
A lay speaker is a member of a local church who:
> Is ready to serve the church.
> Is well-informed on and committed to the scriptures and the doctrine, heritage, organization and life of
The United Methodist Church.
> Has received specific training to develop skills in witnessing to the Christian faith through spoken communication, church and community leadership, and caregiving ministries.
Lay Speakers must take the basic lay speaking course and submit an annual report to their church or charge conference.
