Letters to the editor

Thank you for publishing ‘voices of reason’ March 9
Thank you for publishing what I would call the “voices of reason” of both Joe Stuller (“One thing humanity doesn’t need is more intolerance”) and Scott Bradford (“Let’s rise above forces of division, unite for Christ”) March 9.
Both, in their own way, called for tolerance within our own denomination and within the world at large. I agree wholeheartedly with Mr. Stuller’s assessment that “the one thing humanity doesn’t need is more intolerance.”
The one reason that I am still a United Methodist after 40 years is that this denomination offers a wide umbrella under which exist those who believe in the inerrancy of scripture and those of us who do not, those whose studies and interpretations of those scriptures lead to widely differing views, and those who are seeking a living faith in an ever-changing world
It seems to me that the one thing that unites us all is that we all believe that Jesus really meant it when he told us to love God and our neighbor.
Why can’t we trust one another to express our love of God and neighbor in the way that the Holy Spirit has revealed for each?
Let’s just put aside our egoistical need to be right and get on with the business of bringing peace to a hurting world.

My submission contained mistakes I didn’t make
I feel it is necessary to comment on the Jan. 26 article I submitted (“Have we replaced core truths of faith with tolerance?”).
In that article there were several mistakes made in the form of improper spellings, incorrect capitalizing, etc. The copy that was submitted for publication was free of those errors.
The writer of an article has an expectation that whatever editing is required will be undertaken with sufficient care and good judgment.
That was obviously not done with the January article in question.
