UM NOMADS repair, rehabilitate homes
across Starr County

Six NOMADS mission volunteer couples take a break from rehabilitating homes for the elderly and disabled across Starr County for breakfast at the home of Judge and Mrs. Alex Gabert. Other guests included the Rev. Juan Salas, pastor of First UMC, Rio Grande City; the Rev. Pasha Buck, pastor of St. John UMC, Rio Grande City; and Buck’s husband, John. The Gaberts are next door neighbors to the “RV Park” behind St. John, where the NOMADS—Nomads On a Mission of Active Divine Service—live during their three weeks of work. The “leader” couple, Jim and Barbara Moyer of Central City, Iowa, have been at St. John for 13 project sessions spanning more than 10 years.
