Luncheon will celebrate
rights of clergywomen
A luncheon to celebrate 50 years of full rights for clergy-women is planned for the 2006 session of the Southwest Texas Annual Conference.
“Shall She be Allowed to Preach?” is the topic.
The luncheon is scheduled for June 8 at 12:15 p.m.
In 1956 the General Conference gave full clergy rights to women. Not only could they now be ordained, but they could also be full clergy members of the annual conference.
The United Methodist Church now has more than 10,000 female elders, deacons, local pastors and clergy retirees.
The annual conference session will be June 7 through 10 at the American Bank Center, Corpus Christi.
Reservation form with cost and exact location will be available in May on the Southwest Texas Conference United Methodist Women Web site at www.gbgm-umc.org/swtxumw. The information will also be in local delegates’ and pastors’ pre-conference packets.
