Special leadership training
offered before SOULfiesta

A special one-day leader training event for the Companions in Christ series is set for San Antonio March 30—the first day of SOULfiesta.
Alamo Heights UMC is playing host to the 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. event. The training is to provide leaders of children and adults an in-depth experience in Companions in Christ resources and train them in the distinctive leadership skills called upon when leading formational groups.
SOULfiesta: Leading for Christian Transformation is to continue at Alamo Heights through April 1.
Those who attend the leader-training event are to receive Companions in Christ resources essential for initiating Companions groups in their local congregations. Training is to be offered in both English and Spanish.
Wynn McGregor is to lead a separate training for The Way of the Child.
The Companions in Christ series from the Upper Room Ministries unit of the General Board of Discipleship is designed to bring a transforming small-group experience to congregations.
Companions in Christ invites participants into a deep experience of the Christian life. As the journey unfolds, participants discover classic and contemporary spiritual practices that form rather than inform the participants and encourage them in inner and outward expressions of their faith.
The series adopts a new look this year. The Companions family has expanded to include The Way of the Child, Helping Children Experience God, a 39-session resource, and Compañerismo en Cristo, a Spanish-language version of Companions in Christ.
Authors of the Companions series include:
n The Rev. Stephen D. Bryant, editor/publisher of Upper Room Ministries.
n The Rev. Gerrit Scott Dawson, senior minister of First Presbyterian Church, Lenoir, N.C.
n Adele J. Gonzalez, assistant director of lay ministry in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Miami.
n E. Glenn Hinson, author and retired professor of spirituality at the Baptist Theological Seminary in Richmond, Va.
n Retired Bishop Rueben P. Job, former editor/publisher of The Upper Room.
n Marjorie J. Thompson, author and spiritual director of the Companions in Christ initiative in Nashville, Tenn.
n Wendy M. Wright, professor of theology at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.
McGregor, author of The Way of the Child, is a certified Christian educator in the Presbyterian Church (USA).
More than 10,000 small groups from many denominations have experienced Companions in Christ since its release.
Upper Room Ministries is an ecumenical organization that produces resources for encouraging deeper spiritual formation, including The Upper Room daily devotional guide. It is distributed to more than 2 million readers in 44 languages.
In addition, Upper Room produces five other magazines, a line of books, and programs for youth and adults.
