District happenings

Church office workers to visit Conference offices April 19
The quarterly meeting of secretaries and office staff is scheduled for April 19. The agenda is a trip to the Southwest Texas Conference office in San Antonio. We will take a look “behind the scenes,” put faces with names and meet the bishop. We will also go over a few district and conference forms and have a time for questions. Grace UMC has a 15-passenger van that we can use. Meet at the District Office at 8:30 a.m. to travel together. Sandwiches will be provided. Departure from San Antonio is about 2 p.m., with arrival back at the District Office around 4:30 p.m. Please call Shiela Yuras at (361) 852-8268 if you are interested in attending.

District professionals April 21 meeting offers open forum
“Everything you always wanted to ask your district superintendent but did not” is the program for the April 21 district professionals meeting. The meeting will be at St. Luke’s UMC, Corpus Christi, at 9:30 a.m. St. Luke’s UMC is located at 3151 Reid Drive, Corpus Christi. Telephone (361) 854-5374.

Marriage Encounter weekend slated for First UMC, Portland

Marriage Encounter is for any couple who desires a richer, fuller marriage. The seminar will be offered from the evening of April 29 through the evening of May 1 at First UMC, Portland. This nondenominational program is Christ-centered and scripturally based. Meals will be provided; child care will be available. Cost is $75 per couple. To register call the church at (361) 777-2000. Limited to 10 couples.

St. John’s UMC to build Habitat for Humanity house
To celebrate its 50th anniversary, St. John’s UMC, Corpus Christi, plans to build a house for Habitat for Humanity. The church must raise $42,000 to build the house—over and above regular giving. Additionally, the church must supply the labor; Habitat for Humanity is to provide construction oversight. Habitat is to use a portion of money St. John’s raises to build two houses overseas.

Day School seeks director for 2005-06 academic year

The Methodist Day School in Portland, an outreach ministry of First UMC, is accepting applications for day school director for the 2005-2006 school year. Minimum requirements are nine college credit hours in child development, nine hours in business management and experience in a licensed childcare center. A bachelor’s degree is preferred. This position is an opportunity to work with toddlers, preschoolers, their parents and a staff of 10. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. For consideration, submit your resume to First UMC, 4545 Wildcat Drive, Portland 78374, by April 1.
