Scouting builds character, exec tells UMs Feb. 6

A Boy Scout executive challenged Schulenburg United Methodists last month to recruit boys and girls for character-building youth programs such as scouting.
Ed Henderson, Pioneer District executive for the Boy Scouts, delivered that message Feb. 6 during Scout Sunday at First UMC, Schulenburg. More than 150 Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and adults attended.
Members of Boy Scout Troup 210 and Cub Scout Pack 210 began the morning service by posting the colors and leading worshipers in the Pledge of Allegiance.
“This is a great day,” said Carol Pavlicek, Troop 210 scoutmaster, “and our troop always looks forward to Scout Sunday.”
The Cub pack and Scout troop began planning for Scout Sunday early in January.
“We are always happy to have the Scouts in worship,” said the Rev. Mark Adams, pastor and Pioneer District commissioner. “The activities of our local troop, pack and crew show that character counts for our young people.”
