Austin Seminary Association honors Austin UM pastor

The Rev. Bobbi Kaye Jones, pastor of St. John’s UMC, Austin, stands with other alumni honored by the Austin Seminary Association. They are Thomas W. Currie III (left) and Charles Brooks Partee. The three received the seminary association’s Award for Distinguished Service Feb. 4. The award recognizes their contributions to the seminary and to the church. Jones is the first United Methodist to receive the award. It was presented to her by a longtime friend and seminary classmate, the Rev. Karen Vannoy of Travis Park UMC, San Antonio. A highly regarded preacher, Jones has taught homiletics and tutored the biblical languages at Austin Seminary. Jones made further contributions to the school by serving on the seminary association board and the Supervised Practice of Ministry Council. She serves The United Methodist Church through the Austin District Committee on Ordained Ministry and the Southwest Texas Conference Board of Ordained Ministry. She’s also active in local social service agencies. Jones founded the Texas Faith Network and led the Texas Summit on Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention.
