Couple gives Canyon Lake lot to campaign for campus ministry

A longtime campus ministry supporter has given a Canyon Lake lot to the renovation campaign for the San Antonio United Methodist Campus Ministry Center.
The Rev. Wesley N. Schulze, a retired Southwest Texas Conference clergy member, and his wife, Ann, donated the property to the San Antonio United Methodist Campus Ministry Foundation. They are both active in Canyon Lake UMC.
“This was our dream property, where we planned to build our retirement home,” said Mr. Schulze, 84. “But we give this land to the campus ministry dream for the renovation and updating of the Methodist Student Center in San Antonio. Imagine a hilltop home overlooking Canyon Lake, built over a creek that would have running water after a rain.”
The property is now on the market. Proceeds from the sale are to go to the Building Renovation Campaign for the citywide campus ministry headquarters adjacent to San Antonio College.
“This is a special gift of love from two faithful and loving servants of God in Christ, who love students, who unselfishly gave up a retirement dream that young people could have their dreams of Christian servant leadership training fulfilled,” said the Rev. David L. Semrad, United Methodist Campus Ministry director in San Antonio.
The Schulzes play host to the annual “Ministry Skills Retreat” in their Canyon Lake home each February. That’s a weekend of Christian leadership training.
In addition, Mr. Schulze has served on the campus ministry foundation and program boards as well as the ecumenical Board of Cooperative Ministries in Higher Education.
“I know there is some special Christian family who would like to purchase this property and help the campus ministry at the same time,” Semrad said. For more information call (210) 733-1441.
