State association to honor 3 leaders from Morningside Ministries

Three leaders of United Methodist-related Morningside Ministries are to be honored by the Texas Association of Homes and Services for the Aging next month in Houston.
The Rev. Alvin Lowenberg, president of the San Antonio-based system of retirement facilities, is to receive the Award of Honor, the highest citation given by the state association.
The award recognizes Lowen-berg’s leadership, support, integrity and involvement with state and national professional associations.
A clergy member of the Southwest Texas Conference, Lowenberg has been chief executive of Morningside Ministries since 1990. He is active at Travis Park UMC, San Antonio.
Ed Monk, executive vice president of operations, is to receive the association’s Leadership Award. He has more than 20 years of leadership experience in long-term care facilities. He is a member of Coker UMC, San Antonio.
Neil T. “Tom” Jaco, a member of Alamo Heights UMC, San Antonio, is to be cited as Trustee of the Year.
A retired U.S. Army lieutenant general, Jaco has served on the Morningside board of directors since 1998 and is immediate past chair. He was instrumental in developing the organization’s 10-year strategic plan and creating the Morningside Ministries Foundation.
Founded in 1961, Morningside Ministries is related to the Southwest Texas Conference, the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas and First Presbyterian Church of San Antonio. The organization operates retirement and assisted living facilities in San Antonio and Boerne.
