Quilting scraps provide opportunity
to bless children for women in Yorktown

A group of women from the Quilt Club that meets at First UMC, Yorktown, recently took 34 handmade quilts to the children of Wesley Community Center in Corpus Christi.
The quilts were made from scraps and donated material gathered by the women.
The women bring their machines, needles, thread and ideas to the church to work and share fellowship. The results are unique, kid-friendly quilts that end up being given to children.
The idea originated when Wesley Community Center first advertised the idea of fixing up rooms to house children who were picked up by the local Child Protective Services. At about the same time, members of the Quilt Club kept remarking about all the scrap material they had at home just taking up space.
God put these two situations together and developed the idea of making quilts that these children could have to hug and hold during difficult times in their lives. The quilts are also used for children who attend the daycare part of the
Wesley Community Center.
The ladies are thankful for a way to use their talents and abundance to help the little ones of the kingdom of God.
