10 teens selected for new
summer youth Servant Team

Ten Southwest Texas youths have been chosen to serve on the 2007 Servant Team.
That group replaces the junior counselor position at Southwest Texas Conference youth summer camps.
Students on the Servant Team are Lauren Birdwell, Kendra Glass, Alecia Hudson, Kellie Kingsbury, Daniel Lumpkin, Sara Nelson, Samuel San-derford, Kelly Sonnen, Conner Strickland and Kyle Whittemore.
The Rev. Rusty Freeman, youth ministries director, announced the names April 10. Seven members of a selection committee and the Council on Youth Ministries/Summer Camp Adult leadership team considered applicants.
Members of the Servant Team are to work alongside youth interns Walt Lengel and Melendy Mathis and Servant Team Coordinator Wes Cain.
Team members are to be the “core student leadership team for Southwest Texas Conference summer youth events,” Freeman said. Events include four summer camps and My Mission.
“The Servant Team is a brand new concept for youths wanting to grow and develop as Christian leaders,” Freeman said. “Some of these youths feel called to vocational ministry, but all feel called to serving God’s kingdom.
“I am so pleased with the 10 servant team members and believe they will be a great addition to Southwest Texas Conference summer youth events.”
For a position on the Servant Team, students ages 16 to 21 completed an application that included personal reference letters, health information, a background check and faith statements.
Members now are working to raise their financial support for the summer.
Church members interested in helping Servant Team members raise support can send checks to Southwest Texas Conference Treasurer, Attn: Servant Team, 16400 Huebner Road, San Antonio 78248.
