District to honor Cape at June 4 event

The McAllen District will honor Superintendent Kim Cape at a Sending Forth service and reception June 4. The event is a farewell to Cape, who has been reappointed by Bishop Joel N. Martinez to serve the Austin District as superintendent.
Cape will be preaching the sermon at the service, which is to be held at First UMC, Harlingen, at 4 p.m.
The Rev. Barbara J. Ruth, Corpus Christi district superintendent, will be making a special presentation to Cape.
As superintendent, Cape is an extension of the bishop’s office and advises Martinez on pastoral appointments. She has provided spiritual and administrative leadership to pastors and members of congregations in the McAllen District since 2002 and represents The United Methodist Church hierarchy to them. Her reappointment will be effective after the Southwest Texas Annual Conference session June 7 through 10 in Corpus Christi.
