Community festival draws
neighbors in Kyle/Buda

As a way to offer true Christian fellowship to their neighbors, The CrossRoads UMC sponsored its first communitywide fellowship event April 29 at Tom Green Elementary School in Buda. Some 200 folks from the community responded to the invitation to attend the event.
CrossRoads is a new church start in the Kyle/Buda area. Its ministry emphasis is on those families living east of Interstate 35, many of whom have no faith community. Embracing the church’s slogan, “Where Life and Faith Meet,” this new congregation seeks to bridge the real world with life in Christ. As part of its core values, the church hopes to convey that when one meets life’s crossroads, faith in Christ is the path to choose.
Sponsoring churches for this new church venture include Kyle UMC; Buda UMC; First UMC, San Marcos; Jackson Chapel UMC, San Marcos; and Manchaca UMC. These churches supported the Family Fun Day Spring Fest with people, resources and prayers. Music was provided by the Kyle UMC Praise Team, the Praise and Worship Team of Northern Hills UMC, San Antonio, and the Plum Creek Music Center. Cedar Creek UMC provided sound equipment.
Hot dogs, popcorn, refreshments, balloons, door prizes, clowns spreading God’s love and even a ride on the Jiggle Bug Express all added to the fun of the day.
Face painting was provided by the Lady Shriners.
A hospitality table included information about upcoming events for the church and prayer concerns.
A Wesley nurse as well as nurses from Seton Health Care, Department of Health, and Southwest Cancer Center provided blood pressure checks and community health information.
The Hays County Sheriff’s Department provided security as well as a community crime prevention resource table.
In addition to offering Christian fellowship to the community, Cross-Roads used the event to gain greater visibility for its presence. Several in attendance said they would be interested in going to “Cross-Training,” a Sunday evening, relaxed worship experience, which started May 7.
