Coalition offers respite care for early Alzheimer’s

People in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease have respite care available at an Austin United Methodist church.
The Sanctuary meets Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Faith UMC, 2701 S. Lamar Blvd.
A coalition of south Austin churches opened The Sanctuary in September 2004. The program serves participants in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias.
Participants enjoy music, recreation, mind joggers, art, exercise and a delicious lunch each week.
Volunteers and donations come from six different congregations and other groups. Numerous individuals also support or volunteer for the program.
The Sanctuary needs your help. Please let people caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease know about this program. Spread the word that we need volunteers to help one, two or three times a month—or every week. Help support the program financially with a one-time donation or a commitment that can be paid out over several months.
For more information about The Sanctuary, contact the Rev. Larry Shores at (512) 444-6781 or Wesley Nurse Linda Chambers at (512) 442-0996.
