Confirmation rally draws 80 young people

Eighty district youths participated in the Confirmation Rally April 29 at First UMC, Corpus Christi.
Confirmands, their families, sponsors/mentors, pastors, Christian educators and youth directors attended the celebration.
The theme for the event was Jesus, Proclaim the Name.
The Rev. Barbara J. Ruth, district superintendent, and the Rev. J. Keith Wyatt, senior pastor of First UMC, Corpus Christi, yoked the confirmands and on behalf of Bishop Joel N. Martinez presented each with a wooden cross from the Holy Land. Debra Scott & Prophecy of St. John’s UMC, Corpus Christi, provided praise music.
The service was led by these confirmands from the participating churches: First UMC, Corpus Christi, led the greeting and took up the offering. First UMC, George West, led the prayer of confession. Words of assurance were given by First UMC, Goliad. First UMC, Beeville, led the younger disciples’ time with pastors. The scripture lesson was read by First UMC, Refugio. First UMC, Sinton, led the affirmation of faith. St. Paul UMC, Corpus Christi, led the Wesley covenant prayer. First UMC, Portland, gave the benediction. Devin Boyd and Jared Van Blarcum, confirmands from Grace UMC, Corpus Christi, brought the message of the day. Each responded to two questions: Why do we do confirmation? and What has it meant to me?
The offering of $433 was designated for the Methodist Mission Home in San Antonio.
