Group visits El Mesias UMC’s new site

Bishop Joel N. Martinez led a group of pastors and laity to Laredo May 9 to meet with the Rev. Enrique Duarte and members of El Mesias UMC.
El Mesias is a Spanish-speaking congregation that is now meeting in First UMC, Laredo. Members of El Mesias are hoping to purchase their own space to enable them to expand their ministry to a growing Hispanic population in Laredo.
Those who participated in the visit were the Rev. Larry Howard, the Rev. Bob Allen, the Rev. Warren and Anita Hornung, the Rev. J. Keith Wyatt, the Rev. Gloria Lear, the Rev. Linda Seaman-Elford, Bud Salvo, Denise Barker, the Rev. Ron Campbell, Susan Hellums, Albert Almanza and Dahl Black.
The group had lunch together and toured the proposed building. It is a shell in a new business strip on U.S. 83.
El Mesias reaches out to the Spanish-language, underserved population of Laredo, which is one of the fastest growing areas in the United States. Duarte spoke about the necessity of a facility, which would allow his congregation to expand its ministry. El Mesias is averaging more than 80 people in worship each week.

I hope that we can assist El Mesias in its vital ministry.
Susan Hellums will be putting together Volunteers in Mission teams to help with the finish-out of the building.
Please contact her if your church is able to help with this very important mission.
