Donations, pledges make Habitat House possible
St. John’s UMC, Corpus Christi, has received gifts and pledges in an amount that we feel make it possible to enter into a covenant agreement with Habitat for Humanity. St. John’s part of the agreement is to provide $42,000 for the project and the labor force to carry out the building. This covenant signing was part of the May 22 worship service. When the date is set to begin the building phase of the house, 17 Saturdays of good weather are required from time framing begins until a dedication service upon completion.
Center in Robstown gets accreditation
Wesley Community Center of Robstown was recently accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs. This certification signifies that the center has demonstrated substantial compliance with nationally recognized criteria for high-quality early childhood programs. The staff worked tirelessly to make this accreditation a reality. United Way provided funding for fees and other expenses involved.
Sea City Work Camp shortened to 2 weeks
Sea City Work Camp has canceled its first week. Only seven campers and seven adults were signed up.
The decision was made after a meeting with the Rev. Damon Relder, Atina Wise and the executive board of Sea City Work Camp.
The revised schedule is for Grace UMC, Corpus Christi, to be the host for the campers. This Week 1 is scheduled for June 19 through 24.
The camp can accommodate 100 campers. Camp director is Kathy Rios.
Week 2 will be hosted by First UMC, Portland. The dates are June 26 through July 1. There is room for 90 campers. Camp director is Dan Morrow.
We trust that our God is, as always, in charge and that these two weeks will still produce true servanthood in the volunteers and renewed life to the homeowners.
Preschool director sought
Wesley UMC, Corpus Christi, is seeking a director for the Learning Tree preschool. Application packets can be picked up at the church Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., or Friday from 8 a.m. until noon. The church is at 3915 Gollihar. Deadline for applications is May 15. |
