Older Adult Ministries seminar huge success

The Rev. Dr. Richard H. Gentzler Jr. presented very timely information on Older Adult Ministries during the May 4 and 5 seminar at First UMC, Corpus Christi.
Gentzler is the director of the Center on Aging and Older Adult Ministries for the General Board of Discipleship in Nashville, Tenn.
Gentzler has a deep passion for the ministry area in which God has called him to serve. That was quite evident in his talk on “Spirituality and Aging” May 4.
The all-day seminar May 5 filled all in attendance with lots of good information about the need for keeping our members age 50 and older in vital ministry in our churches.
Gentzler concluded the presentation with the “how-tos” of starting an older adult ministry in the local church and many ideas for activities.
The event was sponsored by the Corpus Christi District and attracted about 100 lay, clergy and staff persons from across the Southwest Texas Conference.
The planning team for this event included representatives from a number of churches:
Wilma Williams, Loraine Rober-son, Dolores Ingrum, Margret Simon, and Connie Harris from First UMC, Corpus Christi; Bill Angle, St. Luke’s UMC, Corpus Christi; Ella Clerkley, St. Paul UMC, Corpus Christi, Joan Morgan, Grace UMC, Corpus Christi; Ann Reimer, First UMC, Rockport; and Cheryl Worley, program director for the Corpus Christi District.
Special thanks to First UMC, Corpus Christi, for the wonderful facility and hospitality; to Anita Woolsey and her staff for taking care of all food needs; and to Gene Reimer for handling the book sales during the event.
