Board names pastor’s son as new director of lay speaking ministries

The son of a former Southwest Texas Conference pastor is the new director of lay speaking ministries.
Sam A. Dubberly, a member of Yancey UMC, was selected this spring by the Board of Laity. He formally takes the position during the June 1-4 Southwest Texas Annual Conference in Corpus Christi.
Dubberly succeeds Phil Mid-dleton, Oxford UMC, San Antonio, who headed conference lay speaking ministries for four years.
The son of the late Rev. Lennie Dubberly and his wife, Fannie, has been Kerrville District director of lay speaking ministries since 2000. During his tenure the number of certified lay speakers in the district increased from 14 to 53.
Dubberly has been active in the 57-member Yancey congregation since 1988. He has been lay leader, served as lay member of annual conference and chaired the administrative council, pastor-parish relations committee, finance committee and evangelism committee.
Dubberly represents Yancey on the Koinonia Walk to Emmaus Board and is an active member of that Emmaus community.
He has worked for more than 25 years for the Texas Railroad Commission as a liquefied petroleum gas safety inspector and accident investigator.
For the past six years he been assistant chief of the Yancey Volunteer Fire Department.
