Methodist Healthcare Ministries named ‘Organization of the Year’
San Antonio-based Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas won national recognition this month for meeting community healthcare needs.
Bob Rork, board of directors president, and Kevin Moriarty, chief executive, received the Organization of the Year award May 5 from the United Methodist Association of Health and Welfare Ministries.
The honor was presented during the association’s national convention in Nashville, Tenn. The association is a network of 400 faith-based health and human services organizations.
Methodist Healthcare Ministries is affiliated with the Southwest Texas Conference.
“Methodist Healthcare Ministries was chosen for its track record of serving the underserved and for the milestones we’re reached in our first eight years,” Rork said.
Founded in 1995, Methodist Healthcare Ministries provides health services to low-income people in 72 counties through medical and dental clinics, church-based nursing and wellness programs, counseling services, legislative advocacy and grants. In 2003 alone the nonprofit organization allocated more than $15 million to these programs and served more than 215,000 people.
Methodist Healthcare Ministries owns 50 percent of Methodist Healthcare System in San Antonio and is the largest nonpublic funding source for community healthcare in South Texas.
