People turn sidewalks red
around McAllen church

Children, teens and adults turned sidewalks red—and other colors— around Trinity UMC, McAllen, May 28-29.
They were taking part in Trinity’s first Sidewalk Chalk Art Festival. Next year’s event is already scheduled for Memorial Day weekend.
Each 2006 participant received a certificate of participation. Scenes included a rendering of Noah’s Ark, representation of elephants and other animals, a mural celebrating the American Cancer Association’s work, and a number of abstract figures.
Local graphic artist Cory Cheever contributed a sidewalk panel as well.
Trinity’s church band played for most of the three-hour event Memorial Day.
