Ministry board awards $40,000 in scholarships to seminary students
The Board of Ordained Ministries awarded $40,000 in scholarships last week in Corpus Christi to seminary students from Southwest Texas.
Receiving scholarships for the 2004-05 academic year were:
> Barbara Aziz, First UMC, San Marcos, a student at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary—$3,000.
> Paul Evans, First UMC, McCamey, a second year student at United Methodist-related Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University, Dallas—$7,000.
> Marta Goodwin, Covenant UMC, Austin, a first year student at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary—$8,000.
> Wade Lindstrom, Northwest Hills UMC, Austin, a student at SMU’s Perkins School of Theology, Dallas—$3,000.
> Larry McRorey, St. Luke UMC, San Angelo, a third year student at United Methodist-related Candler School of Theology, Emory University, Atlanta—$7,000.
> Michael Mumme, Colonial Hills UMC, San Antonio, a second year student at Emory’s Candler School of Theology, Atlanta—$1,000.
> Jean Reardon, First UMC, Mason, a second year student at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary—$1,000.
> Lee Romero, Dripping Springs UMC, a student at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary—$3,000.
> Leslie Tomlinson, Covenant UMC, Austin, a student at Asbury Theological Seminary, Wilmore, Ky.—$7,000.
The board approved the scholarship awards June 2. This year is the third the board has aided promising candidates for ordained ministry from Southwest Texas.
