Mission Service Project brings
200 youths to work in colonia

The 25th annual Mission Service Project was conducted June 3-10, and what a great week it was!
Almost 200 high school youths and their sponsors came together to build and rehabilitate 13 homes in the Mission/Penitas area. In all, 16 teams, some coming from as far away as Missouri, took part.
This year the teams all worked in one very large colonia. Homes were referred to Mission Service Project, which then sent out construction coordinators to assess the project and formulate plans for the work.
Coordinators ordered materials to be delivered to the sites.
Teams were housed in five local host churches in Mission and McAllen. Other area churches helped with food. Each night all teams came together for dinner, prayer, activities and fellowship.
Betty Bundy, who was mainly responsible for beginning Mission Service Project in 1981 through First UMC, Mission, came from Corpus Christi to speak to the teams on opening night.
Many generous people and volunteers help to make a ministry like Mission Service Project a success.
Volunteers gather to cook breakfasts and dinners, desserts and cookies, bring out snacks, wash clothes, clean, and support this ministry through financial gifts and prayers.
These youth teams are an inspiration to us all. What wonderful Christian examples and what blessings each are to our churches!
