Letters to the editor
I now belong to different San Antonio congregation
Thanks for the nice write up on the awards banquet June 3 in Corpus Christi (“Banquet celebrates Rio Grande, Southwest Texas ministries,” June 10).
For the sake of accuracy in reporting, please note that I am not from Oxford UMC, San Antonio, as reported. I have not been for more than a year. I am a member of Travis Park UMC.

Beth Stroud case dramatizes travesty of justice in UMC
Recently the Witness carried a report on the sad saga of Beth Stroud (“Conference to appeal decision on Stroud,” May 13).
She is the minister who lost her credentials in a church trial and was subsequently reinstated by order of the Northeastern Jurisdictional Committee on Appeals. The matter now goes to the Judicial Council.
Beth has elected not to resume duties as an ordained minister until the issue can be settled definitively. I can’t blame her.
It seems to me that this whole case dramatizes an unmistakable travesty of justice. I believe with all my heart that the church will one day look back in horror and shame at how it has mistreated a large segment of its people who happened to have been created homosexual.
How long will it take the majority of our membership to fathom that being gay is not about a choice of behavior but is about who the person is?
