Council calls for school supply drives
The Children’s Advocacy Council encourages all congregations to collect school supplies during August.
The supplies may be taken to your neighborhood schools (check first to determine needs) or to community centers in your area.
If your church participates in Family Promise and you will be hosting families during the summer, you might want to consider filling backpacks for children who are guests in your church.
United Methodist Committee on Relief school kits are also appropriate. The list of supplies is very specific and includes the following items:
> 1 pair blunt scissors
> 2 pads of 8½-by-11-inch paper
> 1 3-centimeter ruler
> 1 pencil sharpener
> 6 unsharpened pencils
> 1 eraser, 2½ inches
> 12 sheets construction paper
> 1 box of eight crayons
For information about packing and sending kits, go to http://gbgm-umc.org/umcor. You may bring completed kits to the District Office. We will be shipping collected supplies at the end of the summer.
