Clergy lectionary group meets every Monday at District Office
Please join other clergy members at the Austin District Office every Monday from 10 a.m. to noon for fellowship and lectionary study. Pastor Peter Castles of Manchaca UMC and the Revs. Monte Marshall and Terry Dowdy of First UMC, Pflugerville, are regular participants and can answer questions about the group.
Conference on Cameroon slated for Aug. 11 at Tarrytown UMC
Learn what The United Methodist Church is doing to bring the love of Christ to people of Cameroon, and discover what you can do to help Aug. 11 at Tarrytown UMC, Austin.
A conference from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. is to focus on mission and outreach opportunities for individuals and congregations in accordance with the programs of the General Board of Global Ministries.

Disaster-response teams needed for Gainesville flood cleanup
The North Texas Conference is requesting Early Response Teams for Gainesville to clean out homes following flooding there. If you are able to put together a team from your church or consolidate team members with trained and certified ERTs from other churches to respond to the request, please e-mail Susan Hellums: shmcfirst@aol.com.
University UMC to give away gently used air hockey table
University UMC, Austin, is giving away (to any one who can provide a good home) the following gently used objects:
> Air hockey table.
> Two long children’s tables.
> Two adult sized tables.
> Pool table (the table is very used)
> Fifty metal chairs with wooden seats.

Dr. Paula Stiernberg offers volunteer, teacher training
It is sometimes difficult to be a “prophet in your own land” when it comes to training volunteers and Sunday school teachers.
Allow Dr. Paula Stiernberg to teach your volunteers about the impact and purpose of their service, how to stay positively focused and teaching techniques.

Religion communicators to eye faith, politics at Aug. 8 meeting
The Central Texas Chapter of the Religion Communicators Council is to consider “When faith becomes a political
issue” Aug. 8 in Austin.
Ron Nielson, Austin spokesman for the Church of Latter-day Saints, is to address the 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. meeting at Asbury UMC, 1605 E. 38 ½ St.
Nielson is to discuss how presidential candidate Mitt Romeny’s Mormon faith has become an issue in the campaign.
Cost is $10 for members and $15 for nonmembers.
