Wanted: Singles Council representatives

Members of the Austin District Singles Council gather for an ice cream
social at Northwest Hills UMC June 2. The council’s goal is to connect
singles and singles ministries across the district.

If adult singles attend your church or live in your church neighborhood, the Austin District Singles Council needs your help.
The Singles Council was formed last fall to connect singles and singles ministries throughout the district. To achieve that goal, the council would like to have at least one representative from each of the 65 congregations in the district. Please talk with adult singles in your churches to see if any would be willing to serve on the council.
The council is off to a great start. This spring, we elected a body of leaders, who represent five Austin-area churches:
> President: Staci Semrad, First UMC, Austin.
> Vice president: Jeff Lofley, Northwest Hills UMC, Austin.
> Co-treasurers: Lynn Altemeyer, Northwest Hills UMC, and Nancy Wright, Bethany UMC, Austin.
> Secretary: Rich Merrill, Bethany UMC.
> Missions chair: Doug Tillman, Oak Hill UMC, Austin.
> Communications chair: Tina Cullen, Bethany UMC.
> Social co-chairs: Daviss King, First UMC, Austin, and Diane Wade, First UMC, Round Rock.
The council kicked off the summer with an ice cream social June 2 for singles in the Austin District to get better acquainted. About 60 adults ranging from 20-something to 60 and older attended the event at Northwest Hills UMC. The council had a coffee-hour social in February attended by about 150 people.
The council’s next event is a Habitat for Humanity service project July 28.
