UM church in Bishop examines ‘purpose,’ community outreach

Members of First UMC, Bishop, are taking concrete steps to identify ways to make disciples in their community.
An average of 19 people meet weekly to discuss Rick Warren’s book, The Purpose Driven Church.
Carolyn Scheible, lay leader and facilitator of the study, said, “This has been a great opportunity for all members to sit down with each other on a weekly basis to study, share and discuss God’s will and our vision for the future of this church. It is one more way for all members to join in fellowship, uphold and nurture each other on a regular basis, and plan for our witness to the world outside these walls.”
Pastor Barbara Aziz said, “I am extremely impressed with and proud of this group of individuals. They are committed to reaching out beyond the walls of our church into the community at large and open to trying new ideas that are applicable to the city of Bishop.”
