District UMW plans meeting for Sept. 23 at Portland church
Plans are now under way for the annual meeting of the Corpus Christi District United Methodist Women. This year’s event will be at First UMC, Portland, Saturday, Sept. 23. Theme for the day will be Harvesting Peace.
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Children’s Building. Program resources will be available for sale. Childcare will be available for children under 5.
Highlights of the morning worship will include candle burning and a memorial service remembering the lives of those United Methodist Women who have died since the district annual meeting in 2005.
Everyone will have the opportunity to attend one of the three studies, which were given this year at the School of Christian Missions. India and Pakistan will be presented by Shelley Ross from Floresville, who taught the class at Mount Wesley.
Jo Anne Wilshusen will lead the study on Shalom-Salaam-Peace.
Plans are being made to have another of the teachers from the School of Missions bring the study on globalization. Children 5 through 10 will attend a children’s study while the adults are in their study sessions.
Following a lunch provided by the UMW of St. Paul UMC, Corpus Christi, and St. Peter’s by the Sea UMC, Corpus Christi, there will be a short business meeting. The budget for 2007 will be presented for approval, and new officers for the coming year will be installed.
Mark Sept. 23 on your calendar now, and plan to attend this spiritual and educational event. First UMC, Portland, has a beautiful facility and invites you to come early and walk the labyrinth.
