Print, visual communications to be topics of seminar slated for Aug. 23

United Methodists in the Corpus Christi District know communications is a ministry that reaches far into communities, enabling church members to become better disciples while offering Christ to all. To improve communications, the district plans to offer a communications seminar Aug. 23.
Anyone with an interest in communications, whether that interest is in effective church newsletters or dynamic Web sites, is invited to attend. Topics to be covered in addition to these are visual communications (video production, photography and PowerPoint presentations) and administration using Excel software. Church leaders across the district said these are the subjects they would like to learn more about.
Members of the conference communications and public witness staff, led by Douglas Cannon, are to conduct morning workshops. Communications professionals in secular organizations in the Corpus Christi area will lead the afternoon programs.
The Corpus Christi area professionals donating their time and expertise are Darlene Gregory and Douglas Burrell of East Meets West Communications. Gregory and Burrell are to address Web sites.
Photography is the topic for a workshop to be led by Charles Spiekerman, who has more than 25 years in the field.
John Meadows, a business education instructor and specialist in technology education, is to offer tips on using PowerPoint for presentations and Excel for administration.
The communications seminar is to be at First UMC, Corpus Christi, from 8:30 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. Registration fee of $25 secures your seat in the morning session and your choice of two of the three afternoon workshops. Registration deadline is Aug. 18. You can save $5 with early-bird registration by Aug. 9.
