Upper Room offers training
Aug. 5 on Way of Child

Southwest Texas United Methodists can learn about a new spiritual formation resource for children during an Aug. 5 training event in San Antonio.
Upper Room Ministries is sponsoring the 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. event on The Way of the Child: Helping Children Experience God at SoL Center, 300 Bushnell.
The training event is to cover how to implement the program, explain it to parents and lead groups of children.
The 39-session curriculum, part of the Companions in Christ series, includes a leader’s guide, resource book, a family booklet, compact disk with songs for each session and an introductory DVD.
Wynn McGregor, a certified Christian educator in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), wrote The Way of the Child. She has served both Presbyterian and United Methodist congregations.
During its development, The Way of the Child was tested in 14 congregations of five different denominations across the United States.
Leaders in the test churches—which ranged in size from 50 to 6,000 members—said children consistently liked the experience so much that they didn’t want to end the program.
Upper Room Ministries, a unit of the General Board of Discipleship in Nashville, Tenn., produces various ecumenical resources for spiritual development. Those include The Upper Room daily devotional guide, five other magazines and a line of books and programs for youths and adults.
