An Austin United Methodist is representing Bishop Joel N. Martinez and the Southwest Texas Conference this month at the Methodist Church centennial in Bolivia.
Sonia Merubia, a member of Northwest Hills UMC, Austin, is to attend a variety of activities next week in La Paz.
Some 5,000 people are expected to take part in various activities marking the 100th anniversary of ministry by the Evangelical Methodist Church in Bolivia. The group is to include representatives from various Methodist churches around the globe.
The centennial celebration is to conclude Aug. 20 with a special worship service.
Merubia, who was born in La Paz, is the granddaughter of the Rev. Moises Merubia, one of the founders of the Bolivian church.
She is the daughter of the Rev. Alberto Merubia, a retired Southwest Texas Conference clergy member. He initially served in the Bolivian church.
